Thirteen DaysJake

The boys are 13 days old and looking like little piglets.  Margaret took Eliza to the vet to have what remains of her stitches removed.  They are getting HUNGRY and starting to nurse on each other!  Elwood has both eyes almost open and Jake is working on it.  They both can get up on all fours, although most of the time, they're dragging their fat bellies along behind them!  One more day of Early Neurological Stimulation.

Eight Days Old!

The boys are doing well and already displaying different personalities.  Jake seems to take things in stride, but Elwood lets you have it if things aren't exactly to his liking.  It's just amazing to watch them coast around the perimeter of the whelping box.  They know exactly where the corners are and love to tuck into them. Eliza is still loving motherhood but spends much more time on our laps watching the babes from afar!

Five Days Old

Jake and Elwood are thriving!  They are chubby little dudes who enjoy eating as much as they possibly can.  We actually kept a log yesterday of how often they are nursing, and poor Eliza is not getting much of a break.  As you can probably guess, they are packing on the ounces and have very round little bellies.  Such darling butterballs.  Eliza is continuing to be a good mom, but she is proving a challenge to keep quiet and away from her incision site as she recovers from her c-section.  She's feeling really good and wants to return to her normal bouncy ways.  She's had to make two return trips to the vet because she thinks she has enough medical training to remove her stitches a tad early!  A few more days and then she can get back to normal, which she'll really enjoy.

The Blues Brothers Have Arrived

Eliza welcomed two blue baby boys on July 17, 2014!  Eliza has always been a little mentally immature (probably from being the baby in the house for so long), so we were on pins and needles about how she would take to motherhood.  To our relief, Eliza has turned out to be an absolutely WONDERFUL mom.  She had a tough time leaving the boys alone and letting them sleep during the first 24 hours, but with a little coaching from us, she has settled into her job and is just smitten.

The boys, Jake and Elwood, are just lovely and chunky, and they smell like sweet, new life.  They are nearly identical in every single way and were even the EXACT same weight at birth, down to the fraction of an ounce.  They are already very active and opinionated, so they'll fit right in here at Faireview :-)
